We are currently seeking an experienced Estimator. Commercial experience is required, and a positive, innovative teamwork attitude is a must. Only qualified candidates in the commercial construction industry will be considered.

Reports To: Chief Estimator, Vice President – Pre-Construction

Experience:

  • Three to five years in the construction industry
  • Proficiency in computer skills

Key Result Areas and Accountabilities:

  • Pre-estimating
  • Verify the accuracy and completeness of bid documents received from the owner
  • Distribute bid documents to subcontractors
  • Respond to subcontractor inquiries
  • Select and engage subcontractors
  • Maintain drawing logs throughout the estimating process

Estimating:

  • Perform or delegate quantity takeoffs/surveys as required
  • Set up and develop the project estimate and detailed scopes of work for each trade
  • Input and price quantity takeoffs/surveys as required
  • Stay updated on current construction practices, unit costs, and trends
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, city meetings, and client meetings as needed
  • Conduct preliminary site investigations as required
  • Thoroughly review all plans and specifications for bid projects early in the bid process
  • Secure Bid Bonds as necessary
  • Manage bid day activities, including the delivery of proposals, screening, and selection of vendor quotes
  • Offer value engineering proposals
  • Prepare bid qualifications as required
  • Solicit bids and value engineering proposals from subcontractors and suppliers

Management:

  • Review bid calendar
  • Prepare budget estimates
  • Participate in professional trade organizations and activities

Preconstruction Services:

  • Review Design/Build plans and specs as they are being prepared to ensure an accurate description of the priced scope of work
  • Coordinate activities of outside consultants
  • Update preliminary estimates
  • Prepare subcontractor bid packages

Subcontractor/Vendor Relations:

  • Review and assign preferred vendor status to selected contractors
  • Review subcontractor evaluations at the end of each project and make appropriate changes or notes in the subcontractor list
  • Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers

Interdepartmental Coordination:

  • Prepare owner contracts for client signature once the estimate is approved
  • Prepare turnover documents for transition from estimating to operations
  • Schedule and conduct turnover meetings with Project Management
  • Jointly buy out the project with the project manager, selecting subcontractors and suppliers based on safety evaluation, experience, fiscal strength, quality, and ability to meet the schedule
  • Assist the project manager in preparing subcontracts and purchase orders
  • Assist project managers in their sales efforts and participate in client meetings
  • Perform site visits during construction to stay current with actual site conditions, construction practices, and subcontractor performance
  • Review post-construction costs with operations and accounting teams, comparing actual scope of work and cost to the original estimated cost, and updating historical estimated data based on the results of the meeting

Education:

  • High school diploma
  • Bachelor’s Degree

Compensation Range:

  • $65,000 -$90,000
